The Whiz behind Tecno Com Wi Fi:    Erick Gallegos Gonzalez

If you’re a seasonal resident, having wireless internet service is a great alternative to the land-line provider, TELMEX, for several reasons. First, there is no yearly contract that locks in a minimum of 12 payments whether or not you use the service. Second, Tecno Com is a lower monthly cost because Telmex only sells internet as part of a package that mandates installation of a telephone line-with a charge- plus the fee for the internet.  Telmex has a significant installation charge for the equipment, which is rented. With Tecno Com wi-fi you only pay for the months that you use the service; the receiver is purchased by you and is therefore transferable to another location. Lastly, and most important to me, is the prompt and reliable service Tecno Com provides.  When I first moved to Mexico, I was on a waiting list for Telmex internet-it took 4 ½ months before the service was installed.  With Erick, he is able to bring the equipment and set me up the next day.  I have had excellent service in the more than three years that I have had Tecno Com internet service.

Although Erick is young,  this sharp 27 year old is well on his way to becoming a   successful entrenpeneur. After completing university with degrees in accounting and computer science, he joined a computer company in Tepic. He began his wireless internet service out of his home until two years ago when he opened the La Penita office of Tecno Com. This expansion enabled him to hire a fulltime computer repair technician as well as offer our area much needed computer supplies, accessories, and hardware. The coastal humidity and salt air is hell on computer components, so when I need replacement gear now, Tecno Com is so convenient and reasonably priced.  “We are honest and take each customer’s needs seriously,” said Erick. “We are dedicated to giving each job 100% of our major effort.”  The Tecno Com guys are so pleasant and calm, even when the hysterical customer (me)  wants an instant miracle; I have found them totally reliable about keeping appointments or completing repair work as specified- shocking in a culture that lives by manana. If Erick says 10 am, it will be 10am. Wow!

The La Penita store is manned by Francisco Javier Chavarin Naranjo, 23. Another computer brain who lives for technology, Francisco is the go-to guy for maintenance and repair of computers. But as Erick cautions, “We are very precise in our repair work; however, we cannot correct the impossible or work miracles with old, out-of-date equipment, which may not be old by calendar time, but due to the constant technological discoveries can turn a computer system obsolete.  It is dificult to repair an antiquated computer or improve function when there are no longer replacement pieces available.” 

Erick first became involved with technology through video games. As his enthusiasm grew, so did his expertise as he picked up training in school and from other computer nerd friends. “I knew from a young age that this is what I wanted to do with my life” said Erick. “I love the challenge of installing networks and exploring the puzzles of new digital comunications. My present high speed wireless network has a 20 Mbps verlosity, enabling the customers to enjoy online videos etc.  I recently enhanced my equipment, and I am continually working to improve my internet service capacity for my 70 wi fi customers.”  When Erick is not working he spends time with his family and enjoys traveling, especially to central America.

 The shop is open six days a week from 9am to 8pm but closed for lunch between 2-4 pm.  Not only does Tecno-Com accept repair items, but they also have a good selection of computer assessories: cables, storage drives, etc.  English understood but not spoken.
