3 Tons of Debris Removed from Riviera Nayarit Beaches

Riviera Nayarit, Mexico - The participation of the community and NGOs has been fundamental in preserving the privileged environment found throughout the 180 miles of coastline in Riviera Nayarit.

On December 3-4, 2011, a team of 45 professional volunteer divers cleaned up the ocean floors, while the community participated in beach cleanups in Rincon de Guayabitos, Los Ayala and La Peñita de Jaltemba, three of Riviera Nayarit's popular vacation destinations.

Approximately three tons of debris were removed from the area, getting Rincon de Guayabitos and surrounding areas ready for the upcoming winter season, while guaranteeing the safety of the families that will experience unforgettable Mexico beach vacations in the region.

Riviera Nayarit is the leading destination in Mexico in terms of certified beaches, not only because of their cleanliness but also because of the safety provided for recreational activities. Three public access beaches in Nuevo Vallarta, one in Bucerias, Los Muertos in Sayulita and Chacala Bay in Compostela are all certified beaches in Mexico's Pacific Treasure.

The Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB) of Riviera Nayarit, a private non-profit association dedicated exclusively to the touristic promotion of this destination applauds the initiatives made by Arturo Gómez Ortiz, a diver who's in love with the Bahía de Jaltemba.

With the support of the Municipal Government and the Compostela Hotel and Motel Association, and the participation of the local and expat communities in the region, Arturo assembled a team of 20 divers and over 300 people to help with the cleanup.

In boats provided free of charge by local tour operators, volunteers removed three tons of debris from the ocean floor, including tires, refrigerators, metal, bottles, paper and plastic.

"Efforts like these contribute to the improvement of tourism in Riviera Nayarit, and this becomes evident through an enhanced travel experience for tourists, and through the marketing efforts being made for our destination," said Riviera Nayarit CVB President, Fernando González Ortega.

Canadian Magazine Features Guayabitos

In its most recent issue, the Canadian magazine Mexi Go dedicated an article to Riviera Nayarit's Rincon de Guayabitos, featuring it as one of the secret Mexican beach escapes for Canadians. "You need to experience Bahía de Jaltemba before the whole world does," stated the publication.
