Even though there is a lot of construction going on at the golf course,
the winners on Thursday came in with 6 under.
Great Improvements! Field of Dreams
By Larry Baron
A
new watering system on all fairways is nearing completion with 4" pipe
being used for the main delivery of water and 2" pipe for the sprinkler
heads. A new high volume, diesel powered pump will be used to supply the
water through the system. A new tee box and fairway of about 130 yards
is also being built for number 8 hole, which is also nearing completion.
With all the construction going on, the golf course is still open for
play and is very challenging with all the temporary obstacles. Golf
course management is making great strides to the improvement of the
course.

Winners on Thursday came in with 2
under, and the 2nd place losers wouldn't say what their score
was, other than their score was over par. The Crew enjoyed
listening to the golfer's BS.

Members:
Early in 2012 a FOD
Advisory Council was established with the goal of helping the FOD
Owner/Management (Gerardo) to continue to provide a cost effective,
positive golf experience for facility users. I think we can all agree
that the FOD has come a long way in the last 10 years under Gerardo’s
and his family’s hard work.
The majority of course
members were formally asked for their opinion on FOD improvement targets
and the Council received over 50 ideas which were reduced down to the
items you see below. Two funding sources (Bing/Bango/Bongo Tourney and
Men’s Day KP Half Pot) were initiated to provide funds for course
improvements. The total collected was $32,850 pesos. Some of the funds
will supplement what Gerardo had already identified in his operating
budget and the rest will be used to address new suggestions.
On May 4, the Council
presented to Gerardo $32,850 pesos in support of ongoing projects
(transport of equipment previously purchased, install larger water
system for fairways, enlarge tee/level tee boxes, finish grading on #6)
as well as consideration/progress on the additional items listed below.
You will notice a number
of administrative and fee related suggestions also on the list below. We
have not reached final agreement on those items but will continue to
discuss them with Gerardo. I am hopeful that some of the fee
suggestions might negate or modify any significant based-fee increases
for 2012/13.
Play is continuing at
the FOD and work continues on #6—tee blocks, fairways and bathroom
construction. Equipment from Texas is due to arrive any day.
Gerardo trusted the
Council to provide suggestions and help generate funds for improvements
at the FOD and the Council trusts that he will spend that money
appropriately. Gerardo and the Council both thank you for your ongoing
support to the Field of Dreams.

Mexico Qualifies for Men’s Soccer in 2012 Summer Olympics
“Build it and they will come” El Monteon's Field of Dreams Golf Course A remarkable dream comes true! By Bette Venturi
In Mexico, on an especially sweltering day in August, three of my golf buddies and I peel our skin off the car seats of the jeep and pile out to play some golf. For $15 (summer play) US dollars we can play until the sun goes down, that is, if we don’t get heat stroke first! We are met in the gravel parking lot by five of the seven resident dogs. We’ve disrupted their siesta and they bark excitedly, romping towards us and wagging their tails in greeting. Other than the dogs and a few ducks squawking disapproval at our arrival, the place is quiet and seems deserted. In mid-afternoon this time of year, most sane people are snoozing in front of electric fans. Someone in our foursome hollers, “Hola!” and a moment later the proprietor, Gerardo, emerges from his house squinting, looking as though he’s been enjoying the ubiquitous summer nap himself. Without having to ask, he equips us all with an extremely cold bottle of Corona. Now we are ready to play a round of what we like to call “Extreme Golf”. It’s like regular golf, but when you add 90-degree weather and 90% humidity to the challenge, the result is a game of golf that is not for the weak of heart or for the sound of mind.
